Content and distribution of rare earth element (REE) in the mafic-ultramafic rocks of Middle Dnipro megablock of the Ukrainian Shield were estimated. It was established that metabasalts have undifferentiated, metagabrodolerites – weakly differentiated, basaltic metakomatiites and metaperidotites – differentiated distribution of REE. Differentiated distribution is a characteristic feature of metakomatiites and caused by light REE (LREE) enrichment. On the basis of the REE distribution it is suggested that the basic-ultrabasic magmatism within Mezo-Archean greenstone structures was provided with separate, intermediate to the main mantle-plume body, sources. Technique of ICP-MS analysis of basic-ultrabasic rocks was improved. The most effective method of sample preparation is the decomposition of rocks and minerals in a mixture of sulfuric, hydrofluoric and nitric acids. REE testing was made without preliminary concentration over the range from 0.01 to 100 ppm with standart deviation of 0.04–0.10.
